Years ago, iodine deficiency in many parts of the world is the reason we have iodized table salt today. Iodine is added to the salt to make it part of your everyday intake as salt is a staple in most dishes.

This doesn’t mean you should douse your food with salt because salt should also be had in moderation, plus you can get your iodine naturally from fish and dairy products.
