Myth or Fact?: All calories are created equal…

Myth: All calories are created equal so it doesn’t matter what I actually eat.

Fact: Quality of foods is extremely important so it’s not at all just about the calories!

Ever heard the expression “beer belly”? That refers to a man who got that pot belly from drinking beer. That’s because different foods (or drinks) affect us in different ways. Some foods take more work to eat and therefore burn more calories while you’re digesting them. Just the act of chewing fruits, vegetables, whole grains and leaner cuts of meats can increase your calorie burn by up to 30 percent!

Timing and combinations of foods are also super important!

Low calorie foods with artificial sweeteners can create sugar cravings and bloat.

Diet soda and sugar free gum or even vegetables in large amounts can bloat as well.

So before you reach for a low calorie food and assume it’s guilt free, think again!
